The Sacred Protocol is the first volume in the Evilution Series. It is an alternate reality crime thriller. Two pivotal events in history have a very different outcome. The first is the Spanish Armada. The story swiftly moves to the all-embracing Iberian Republic in 2016, when the internet collapses suddenly. The crumbling of banks and regional governments is prevented by the somewhat miraculous appearance of a new, impregnable system. A slide to dystopian culture is averted. However, after a few years, investigation of a number of mysterious deaths of protestors against the new system is warranted. There appears at first to be little evidence to link the cases, but when progress is made, the deaths take a sinister twist. It becomes a race against time to prevent global implications of unimaginable consequence. The various investigating bodies must reluctantly work together as zero point approaches.

with only a little suspension of belief, this is a good story. while you have to buy the rest to find out how it all ends [i haven't], this is a complete story. the worldwide web and internet as we know it catastrophically collapsed, along with everything that depended on it. a private group created the 'sacred protocol' which was both absolutely stable and secure. however, it was based on the moon. this did not seem to stop immediate, real time communication. i guess every one got used to the 3 second delay. there is something fishy in all that is happening and people opposed to sacred start dying in apparent suicides.anyway, worth reading all on its own.

Couldn't get into it didn't finished the book.
Book starts out slow, but an excellent alternative history rendition. Good characters, great alternate history twists.
This is a good read! I chose this rating because it is well written. The main plot and sub-plots keep you guessing all the way through.
Science fiction at its best. The story almost gets lost under unnecessary, unceasing technical data. The underlying story is good once you wade through a river of techno-babble.
This book surprised me; because when I started reading it, I did not expect to like it. However, once I began reading, I could not stop. It has believable characters, action, and great plot.
This magnificent world building is consistent throughout. The idea is very interesting. Unfortunately, the writing style was difficult for me. The prose and much of the dialogue were like a report. This emphasis on telling made the characters flat and I felt bored despite so much happening all the time.
