Could Mr Darcy have made a worse proposal at Hunsford? Short answer. Yes.

In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Darcy's parents pass away earlier than canon and his upbringing is supervised by his slightly disreputable uncle, the Earl of Matlock.

Elizabeth and Jane Bennet meet the new tenant of Netherfield when they are involved in an accident. Lizzy couldn't care less about the haughty Mr Darcy she's more interested in the new physician in town, Dr Gregory. Nor is the very experienced Mr Darcy about to fall for a country chit; but as the local fauna, and her arts and allurements conspire against him, he makes a grave miscalculation. Humor/Angst. Hunsford fork. This story is suitable for mature readers.

"Wow. What a thoroughly fun read this was! I just finished a near binge-read of Via Luton and it is simply exquisite. All the P&P spirit is here and the characters are beautifully drawn. Finally a way for Elizabeth's fine mind and caring sensibilities to shine - through medicine and caring for wounded soldiers. It also serves to improve her sisters by giving them direction and purpose. I liked that Elizabeth had her "cold-feet" moment - brave as she is - and was able to reconcile her fears. A tremendous effort certainly that has humor, intrigue, adult-fun...it's all here. Thank you for bringing this [to] us P&P fans - a good story is always so very welcome"

As a previous reviewer stated, I appreciated where the author had our main characters meet, before the infamous assembly in Meryton. It seemed like the story would be interesting based on that synopsis. But I was wrong.

The reason this story is so long is because the author basically inserted most of the original story. Major pet peeve of mine and of course once I recognized the original story I skipped a lot of it.

Also, major spoiler ahead....

I don't know why or how this author manages to make Darcy unlikable. I appreciated the sense of humor in him (I'll get to that later), but he was just a horny teenager in this story. So lustful that he actually asked Lizzy NOT to marry him, but to be his mistress? Seriously?! He deserved what Lizzy did to him, which was beat him with a carpet beater. Again I'll refer to the funny aspects of this story but this was one of them.

Granted, Darcy immediately regretted his actions, but I don't think he really learned anything. Because once he became engaged he did his best to try and anticipate his wedding vows, without success. While I actually enjoyed the love making scenes, I wasn't totally liking Darcy's attitude. And a personal nitpick, I hated that not only did he have a courtesan he frequented, but that he still saw her and "rutted" her even while Elizabeth was in his heart and mind. I'm personally nitpicking but it is what it is.

Now to Elizabeth. Eh, I appreciated her wit and her funny thoughts and interactions with Darcy (sometimes), but my goodness her whole feminist attitude of wanting to work was rather grating. I didn't mind her wanting to find meaning in her life and I understood her wanting to help in the hospital, but it came off (like Darcy) as unlikable.

So why did I choose 4 stars instead of 3? Truth is this story was funny. I did enjoy Lizzy beating Darcy with the carpet beater. It reminded me of the amazing Hunsford proposal in the film Pride & Prejudice & Zombies!

And wow did I really like Kitty and Lydia in this story. I've seen stories where they're funny and good to read, but they were funny and entertaining here. Lydia is an animal lover and mischievous. She even gave Wickham his comeuppance herself. She didn't start off this amazing (except for her animal loving aspect) but the whole hospital aspect allowed her and Kitty to mature and grow. Loved what the author did with them.

And of course, anytime a dog is a featured player in a story, I love it. And Argos is quite important in this one. So I enjoyed that.

Great story but not because of Lizzy and Darcy unfortunately. And this book could've been trimmed majorly by not rehashing canon so much.

I Met Mr Darcy Via Luton edition by Fredrica Edward Romance eBooks Reviews

I simply adored this story. Fredrica Edward is by far one of my all-time favorite writers. She has an uncanny ability to subtly get into each of characters head. Her Darcy and Lizzy story's far out shine anything I've read from many other authors, and I've read many.
Via Luton will have you guessing, cheering and even laughing throughout. I highly recommend this rousing romantic romp. Darcy and, Lizzy have never been more perfectly set to fall in love. Cheers.
I read this book originally on a website, and I enjoyed it then and did once again when I purchased it. It's a good length which is great considering how short some of the P&P fan fiction books are and priced way too high. I also loved the humour that was in the book, my favourite being Elizabeth beating Darcy with the carpet beater. It followed the original up to a point but it did have it's own twists and turns, such as the addition of Dr Gregory, and Elizabeth helping out at his clinic and hospice. All in all it was a good read and I enjoyed it immensely.
Good read but nothing spectacular.
Some slow parts were I speed read...

The Phillips have inherited an estate in Luton so when Mrs Bennet hear the rumours that Netherfield is let she sends Jane and Elizabeth on their way to Luton to shop. They have a carriage accident outside the gates of Netherfield and seek help from Darcy and Bingley who are visiting the estate.
Follows Canon to a large degree but there is a new caracter in form of a doctor and Elizabeth helps him out and Darcy is jealous. At Hunsford Darcy asks Elizabeth to be his mistress not his wife and she chases him of the premises with a carpet beater.
There is no trip to Pemberley before they are married, they reach an understanding at Longbourne.
Darcy in this novel is more lust full than romantic. Elizabeth is more inclined to work as a nurse than to marry.

Contains mature content.

It is a long read and therefore more for the money.
Would buy a sequal if offered.
You have to have a sense of humor to appreciate this book. It was hilarious and sweet throughout. I bypassed the book and never bothered to give it a try b/c of the strange title..had no clue what via Luton was. I found the cover and title odd. Realized after reading that Luton was a hatmaking town that Elizabeth and Jane were on their way to when their carriage broke down, forcing them to meet and ask for help from Darcy and Bingley.

There is enough of the original story to keep the framework intact; however, the author was able to weave lots of new and intersesting situations into the old , giving the story alot of originality.
The Darcy/Elizabeth love story is still sweet. I dislike stories with too much misunderstanding and where the happily ever after is only in the last 2 pages of the book. This book was not a rushed ending. The story is long enough so you can feel how Darcy and Elizabeth develop, change, and transform in their affection and regard for one another. In some parts, I thought Elizabeth's changes towards Darcy felt a bit rushed, but it did not take away from the story.

There are lots of Darcy/ Elizabeth moments...isn't that what everyone ultimately wants?

Although it was a regency story, sometimes the story felt modern at times. The whole story is so original that many of the changes the author made works in a very unique and satisfying way. I wish readers would give this author and this story a chance. I enjoyed reading it immensely. Sometimes, it pays off to not be too serious and have a little fun with a story. Highly recommended!
